RePLAY: Resident Evil 6 sets new
heights on the price of collectors editions, classy NES coffee tables for sale
and the mysterious Namco Bandai, Capcom and SEGA crossover project is finally
revealed.
The price of “premium”
or “collector’s editions” have gone up exponentially the past few years as
publishers throw in much “exclusive stuff” as they can to justify the high costs.
Arguably, inflation plays a role too, but… a grand for a Resident Evil 6 Premium Edition?
No amount of inflation
can justify that.
Capcom is asking
$1,293 for those with cash to spare for a copy of the game, four different Resident Evil 6 tablet covers (Chris,
Leon, Jake and “Secret” versions), and a Leon-replica leather jacket.
At least it comes with
free shipping.

Speaking of high
prices… how about something that justifies its price tag, like a fully
functional NES controller coffee table? It’s not just a maple, mahogany and
walnut coffee table disguised as a coffee table—it’s a controller that works.
And it can be yours
all for the modest price of $3,500 plus shipping.
Honestly, a better choice
for over a grand expense than a leather jacket, a game and some tablet covers.
With bated breath we
waited on what project has gotten Capcom, SEGA and Namco Bandai all working together—and
we should’ve seen it coming. Andriasang via Famitsu reveals the game as a 3DS
strategy RPG titled Project X Zone
(pronounced Project Cross Zone).
Historically, Namco
Bandai and Capcom worked on a similar title for the PS2 dubbed Namco x Capcom, an action-strategy RPG
hybrid which featured characters from games produced by the two companies. Project X Zone is identical in this
respect: the game will feature characters representing the three publishers.
Here is a preliminary
list of characters:
Capcom
Ryu & Ken (Street Fighter), X and Zero (Mega Man X), Dmitri and Dante (Darkstalkers and Devil May Cry), Chris and Jill (Resident Evil)
SEGA
Shinguji Sakura and
Ogami Ichiro (Sakura Wars), Pai and
Akira (Virtua Fighter), Kurt and
Riela (Valkyria Chronicles), Ulala
and Touma (Space Channel 5 and Shining Force EXA)
Namco Bandai
Sanger Somvold (Super Robot Wars), Jin and Ling Xiaoyu (Tekken), KOS-MOS and T-ELOS (Xenosaga), Yuri and Estelle (Tales of Vesperia), Kite and Black Rose
(.hack)
The character list is
not final—other characters will be introduced at a later date, including hidden
ones.
While no details of
the combat system has been announced, it has been revealed that characters will
fight in teams, like Ryu and Ken.
According to a Famitsu
interview with Namco Bandai’s Kensuke Tsukanaka, Project X Zone’s producer, the idea was first conceived by Namco
Bandai, who approached Capcom, followed by SEGA.
Project X Zone is forecasted for a 2012 release.
