Headline RePLAY – 3.14.12

Today on Headline RePLAY: LEGO Nintendobots are rolling out, Mass Effect 3 fans petition BioWare for a new ending through charity despite BioWare’s Casey Hudson defense of it.

Domaster and Tetrawing are heroic Nintendobots that can transform from a Game Boy and Tetris cartridge to robot and bird and back. They are the creation of Julius von Brunk, and the best part is—they are entirely made out of LEGOs!

The name Domaster is an amalgamation of “Dot Matrix with Stereo Sound,” Brunk explained on MOCpages, “the blurb written above the screens of old Game Boys. The name Tetrawing was coined by New York burlesque girl Dangrr Doll who does a Tetris-themed routine with D20 Burlesquea geek/gamer sexy striptease troupe in my town!”

Domaster even comes equipped with a pair of LEGO AA Batteries that can be converted to a handheld gun and shoulder turret! Just how awesome is that?

Rather than endlessly debate Mass Effect 3’s ending, one group of fans have decided to request BioWare that they craft an alternate ending by starting a donation drive to Child’s Play.

The Retake Mass Effect – Child's Play donation drive is a community driven effort to bring positive attention to our petition for an alternate ending to the fantastic Mass Effect series,” the site explained.

“To this end, we donate to the “Retake Mass Effect 3” Child's Play Charity drive in lieu of our signature to this petition, in order to establish our sincerity, our love for these games, and for the Mass Effect universe.”

Passionate fans have donated a grand total of $43 thousand to the cause in just two days since the charity drive’s inception.

Organizers have acknowledged that BioWare has the right to end the series “however they see fit.”

Speaking to Digital Trends Casey Hudson, the Director and Executive Producer of Mass Effect 3, defended the game’s controversial endings.

“I didn’t want the game to be forgettable, and even right down to the sort of polarizing reaction that the ends have had with people–debating what the endings mean and what’s going to happen next, and what situation are the characters left in,” Hudson told Digital Trends.

“That to me is part of what’s exciting about this story. There has always been a little bit of mystery there and a little bit of interpretation, and it’s a story that people can talk about after the fact.”
