Headline RePLAY – 3.13.12

Today on Headline RePLAY: No Episode 3 for Sonic 4, Xbox 360 users discover their achievements wiped out and Double Fine Adventure’s fundraising concludes with a massive payoff.

Sonic 4: Episode 2 could be the last we see of the classic SEGA Genesis-era hedgehog—for now. Producer Takashi Iizuka revealed to Digital Spy today that SEGA is not planning on an Episode 3.

“We are looking forward to hearing the feedback from the users for Episode 2,” Iizuka told Digital Spy, “but we are currently not planning to release another episode.”

Instead it looks like SEGA is looking for more feedback, as Iizuka noted that the publisher is more interested in seeing “how the users accept this episode.”

The internet was abuzz today with panicked reports of Xbox 360 users who had their game achievements wiped completely. 360 users flocked to the official Xbox forums in search for answers, but found others on the same boat:

“Earlier I was playing Mass Effect 3 on Xbox and decide to eat something,” recounted Louie Falls. “I came back, turned on Xbox and loaded up Mass Effect. I then got a message saying that my Gamertag has been used on a different console and that my game will start from the last time I played on this console. Then I realized that when I got an achievement, my whole Gamerscore was reduced to 0. It’s happened to about 50% of the people on my list.”

Thankfully, Microsoft was already aware of the issue and quickly provided a resolution. All affected 360 users are instructed to logout and login to get their achievements restored.

As Double Fine’s Kickstarter project to make a classic adventure game drew to a close, it managed to collect a whopping total of $3,336,371 in the course of a month—way exceeding its humble $400,000 goal.

“It’s been an amazing experience,” said Tim Schafer. “So much love.”

“I don’t want to say this is the end of the whole game industry as we know it…” he continued. “…it’s not, it's not!"
